How to gain admission with a low JAMB score is a challenge for many admission aspirants.
I know right now you are feeling down. It seems like there is no hope for you to gain admission this year.
You do not have to give up because your JAMB score is low.
Trust me when I say there is always a way out of every difficult situation.
For the records, a low JAMB score is a score below 180.
The problem here is that many Universities set their JAMB cut off mark at 180.
It means that if you do not have a JAMB score above 180, you can not apply to the school of your choice.
Also, some students pass the JAMB cut off. But their score is too low to get the course that they want to study.
For example, a JAMB score of 200 is low to get a course like Medicine, Law, etc., in most Universities in Nigeria.
In this post, I will show you tips that you can use to get admission with a low score in JAMB.
Do let me know in the comment box if you have any questions or need counselling. I will respond to your comment as soon as possible.
Gain Admission with Low JAMB Score
Here are the ways that you can get admission with a low JAMB score;
- Score High and Pass Your Post UTME
- Change Your Course of Study
- Change Your Institution
- Polytechnic
- School of Nursing
- College of Health Technology
- College of Education
- Institute of Management Technology
Score High and Pass Your Post UTME
Scoring high and passing your Post UTME exams in flying colours is the easy way to gain admission.
Even with a low JAMB score, you can boost your chances of getting admission with a high Post UTME score.
Many Universities use JAMB plus Post UTME to calculate the total score for admission.
For example, the University of Nigeria uses the 60:40 formula.
- JAMB = 60%
- Post UTME = 40%
It thus means that you can get admission if you can pull off a high performance in your Post UTME.
Also, you must know that you need to have a score around the required JAMB cut off to get admission.
For example, a student with 250 can target a high Post UTME score to get Law.
But if your JAMB score is low, let’s say below 190. Then scoring high in the Post UTME exams may not make much of a difference.
Change Your Course of Study
At this stage, the best decision to take is to buy JAMB change of course form.
The fact is that you cannot get a competitive course with a low JAMB score.
For example, it is not possible to get Mass Communication in many Universities with a low score.
The best decision would be to buy a change of course form to a less competitive course.
What you need to do right now is to check if your JAMB score is suitable for the course that you want to study.
Tell me your JAMB score and the course that you want to study so I can counsel you.
Change Your Institution
Your low JAMB score requires you to buy a JAMB change of institution form.
It is a waste of time to think that you can get admission to some schools with a low JAMB score.
Many aspirants make the mistake of going to competitive schools with a low JAMB score. You will not get admission because of the stiff competition.
The best decision is to apply to a less competitive institution.
It is a good decision because you may still study your dream course in a less competitive school. There are some Universities where you can study Medicine with a score as low as 270.
Do not blind yourself with the mindset that you must attend a Federal school.
As long as the school have NUC accreditation, do not worry about whether it is Federal or State.
Polytechnic
Applying to a Polytechnic is the best option for aspirants with low JAMB scores. Admission into the Polytechnic is less competitive than the Universities.
Also, many Polytechnic accept a JAMB score of 140 for consideration for admission.
I know you might say that you do not want to attend a Polytechnic. But it is better than staying at home for one extra year.
You can decide to take JAMB in your first year at the Polytechnic or apply for Direct entry after your ND 1 or HND.
Pre-degree Program
The pre-degree program is a one-year A’level academic program. It is an easy way to get admission into Universities in Nigeria.
Universities that run the program admit students for one year. At the end of the program, top students get admission.
Students applying for the pre-degree program must also take the JAMB form. It means that you will get two chances of getting admission through pre-degree and JAMB.
I must let you know that admission through pre-degree is competitive. Most of the time, aspirants end up getting a course that is not their choice.
For example, you can apply for a pre-degree in UNIZIK for Medical Laboratory Science. At the end of the program, you will get admission to Agric.
School of Nursing
Schools of nursing in Nigeria are institutions that train registered nurses. The duration of the program is three years.
After graduation, you can go to the University via direct entry or practice nursing full time.
There are many opportunities for Nurses in Nigeria and abroad.
Though, this option is for science students who are passionate about the Nursing profession.
JUPEB Admission
JUPEB stands for Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board. It is an admission program that runs for the duration of one year.
Successful candidates would then be eligible for admission through direct entry into second year.
The best part thing about the program is that you will not start from first year when you gain admission through the JUPEB program.
It is important to note that the program is competitive. You need to get a high point score to qualify for admission into your desired course.
Here is the list of Universities that offer JUPEB program in Nigeria;
